Looking for a family friendly weekend trip from Hong Kong? We recently traveled to Cam Ranh Vietnam for a family holiday. It was a joint family trip with some of our best friends who also have a one year old. Peter, Patriot, and I have done a few different trips to Vietnam (see our travels to Hoi An, Hanoi, Sapa, and Hue), but this was our first visit to the south central coast of Vietnam.
Cam Ranh Vietnam Family Holiday
How to Get There
A Cam Ranh Vietnam family holiday is the perfect kid friendly family trip and it’s a very easy trip from Hong Kong with a direct flight in two hours or less. For those traveling from other international cities, you can usually connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
The new Cam Ranh International Airport had just opened the week we arrived and it was sparkling clean and welcoming with a few souvenir shops and restaurants/cafes. From the airport it’s a short 15-20 minute drive to a strip of resorts and hotels. Though while more are being developed in the area, and the new airport will no doubt bring more tourists, we were pleasantly surprised by how undeveloped the area was overall, especially compared to Nha Trang which is about 45 minutes away.
Where to Stay
Since we had two families traveling together, we stayed at a 2 bedroom pool villa at the beautiful Fusion Resort Cam Ranh.
What to Eat
Food at Fusion Resort Cam Ranh
Breakfast at Fusion Resort Cam Ranh is included and available 24/7 either at the main breakfast buffet or at delivered to your room. We enjoyed lots of our favorite Vietnamese dishes like beef pho, iced coffee, and rice paper rolls.
They also offer free kids meals for children under the age of 5 which meant Patriot was happily stuffing his tiny mouth with spring rolls, spaghetti bolognese, mini burgers and fries, and much more. We were also a big fan of the fresh coconuts!
While food at the resort was delicious and well priced (the poolside barbecue is a must!), alcohol at the resort is on the high end. Stores in the area are very limited so I’d recommend bringing a bottle or two in your suitcase as they will provide ice and glasses and we saw other guests who decided to BYOB too.
The Shack Vietnam
A 20 minute drive from Fusion is a great, casual beachside bar and restaurant. The Shack Vietnam serves cheap, cold beers, burgers, and fries that can be enjoyed with your toes in the sand. They also rent gear for water sports and can organize dive trips in the area. It’s an easy trip from the resort and another nice spot for kids to play and explore.
What to Do
Swim, sand, spa, and sports! We admittedly opted to take it easy on this trip and didn’t take part in any water sports, but the area is perfect for swimming either at the pool or on the beautiful beaches.
Patriot loved digging and covering himself in sand, and I loved being massaged day after day at the Fusion spa. Most resorts in the area can organize boat trips, jet skiing or scuba diving.
