Patriot is ONE YEAR OLD. I can hardly believe it, even though we kicked off his celebrations a couple weeks earlier in Texas with a sweet, messy cake smash.
Although Patriot eats a lot of delicious things (see my Baby Led Weaning Stories on Instagram), he very rarely eats dessert. When we put an untouched, personal sized cake in front of him, he didn’t know what it was. He immediately started carefully picking off the sweet fruits off, as if the cake itself was just a plate.
He ate each piece of fruit, but needed a bit of help to realize he was sitting in front of a pile of sugary goodness.
At first it was just a little icing on his elbow then soon he was smashing the cake with his full hands. He did eat a good bit of the yummy Whole Foods Berry Chantilly Cake (Peter and I had the same cake, in a sheet pan version at our second wedding in Mill Valley).
He loved feeling the cake squish between his fingers and he also loved being cheered on by his Uncle Tim and Auntie Gabby (our wonderful photographer for the occasion!)
After the cake was smashed to bits, it was time to wash off with a sink bath, which Pate might have enjoyed even more than the cake smash itself!
Happy Birthday, Patriot!
