After a week and a half in Rwanda, our little global traveler, Patriot, hopped on a plane to Hong Kong with just enough time to jam at Clockenflap, unpack and then repack and then get back onto another plane to head to California.
Peter and I were really fortunate and thankful to be able to travel to California for two big events.
1. Patriot’s first Thanksgiving
2. The first annual Healdsburg Gathering
The latter was the first time for Patriot to meet all of Peter’s cousins on the Lampard side and his Uncle Guy and Aunt Suzanne.
The former was made all the more special because it was also Pate’s first time meeting his 93 year old great grandmother.
Needless to say, there were a lot of firsts on this trip!
We arrived to San Francisco late and checked into a nearby hotel for some sleep before hitting the road very early the next morning (thanks to a very jet lagged baby).
Luckily we didn’t hit any holiday traffic on the road, but our poor grumpy baby hates the car and absolutely loathes being in the carseat for more than 15 minutes.
A few tears (from Pate and from me), Taco Bell burritos, and coffees later and we finally made it to beautiful Cayucos. We always love visiting Granny and love spending time in Cayucos. I’ve been to Cayucos in the spring and in the summer and we had our engagement photos taken here, but this was my first time in the fall.
This was also my first time celebrating Thanksgiving in the US in 5 years.
I was slated to whip up a few dishes but after falling asleep during Pate’s nap time, I was thankful and surprised to find that Gammy had prepared every dish, including a giant turkey (nearly twice the size of Pate).
