While some parents may complain that technology is taking over our lives, it can be a great help for moms, especially first time moms. And let’s be honest what new parent couldn’t use a bit of help?
Are you looking for a way to make life with a new baby a bit easier? These 6 phone apps have made my transition into motherhood and much easier one! Try one of the best apps for new parents and moms with newborns.
Best Apps for New Parents
The Wonder Weeks
Your baby is constantly growing and changing. This includes big changes in his mental development. These changes are called mental leaps. When baby goes through a mental leap you may find that your baby is going through a fussy phase. The wonder weeks helps you understand these mental changes and predict when your baby will go through them. The app also gives advice on how to deal and help your baby for these changes.
Patriot is going through his second leap now and I’m so glad I had this app on hand to help explain his increased fussiness.
Track pumping sessions, feeding sessions, diaper changes, sleep and more. Even with the free version, you’ll have plenty of features to track your baby’s activity all in one place. I track my milk stash, Patriot’s feedings, sleep, and even his tummy time!
Kegels and pelvic floor exercises are a must after giving birth (especially if you didn’t do them while you were pregnant!). This app came highly recommended by my midwife. Squeezy has been designed by chartered physiotherapists specialising in Women’s Health working in the NHS in the UK.
Select the standard exercise plan or create your own specific program. There’s also a professional mode that allows physiotherapists to set an exercise plan for patients. The app can remind you when to do the exercises and keeps a record of the exercises you’ve completed each day. And yes– there is an exercise program for men too!
The benefits of meditation and mindfulness are amplified for parents. Meditation can help you stay calm, be less anxious, and embrace the joy and craziness of motherhood. Headspace is a meditation and mindfulness app with hundreds of different themed sessions and bite sized meditations. Just a few minutes of practice a day can make all the difference!
Air Matters gives you real-time Air Quality Index & Allergy Pollen & Weather Data, as well as Protection Recommendations and Forecast. I avoid taking Patriot outdoors depending on the day’s index. Being in Hong Kong, air quality can be an issue for children, the elderly and other sensitive groups and while air quality may be less of a publicized issue in your city, you may be surprised by the ratings and indexes where you live.
Cloud Baby Monitor
Need a baby monitor in a pinch? This affordable app allows you to see and hear your baby home or when you’re traveling. With apps available for your phone, MacBook, AppleTV, and Apple Watch you can easily monitor your baby remotely.
