Bear Naked Custom Granola

Pregnancy has really thrown my eating habits into a whirlwind. Pre-pregnancy if I was feeling a bit hungry, that was it. I was hungry. Plenty of time to figure out what to eat next or even cook something up.

Nowadays, my hunger levels seem to go from zero –> to –> holy shiz get me something to eat NOW or I’m going to vomit or pass out. Needless to say I’ve learned the hard way to carry around lots of snacks and water with me whenever I leave the house and to have a nice breakfast to start my day (although breakfast has always been a must for me).

During my first trimester, the one big craving change I noticed was that I wanted carbs and sweets (bonus points for sweet carbs). Now that I’ve entered the second trimester, I’ve been able to eat somewhat more normally, but for light every day snacking my go-to is still granola and granola bars.

So when I had a chance to try Bear Naked’s Custom Granola blends for free, I jumped at the opportunity to try my own mix. On their website you can easily pick a granola base and 3 ingredients. There are tons of different ingredient options including freeze dried jalapenos, lavender, salted edamame, freeze dried pineapple, praline pecans, chocolate chips and flaxseed. All the granolas and ingredients are non-GMO project verified.

For my blend, I had a lot of fun picking and choosing different ingredient options but in the end opted to go sweet and picked a honey granola base with dark chocolate chunks, dried pomegranates and praline pecans. My cute tin can of custom granola arrived with the granola in a zipped up bag, affectionately labeled “Beary Lampard” (please come up with a better bear/granola pun than me for your blend’s name!).

This granola was a delicious lifesaver when I couldn’t stomach the airplane food on my recent trip to the US and wanted something sweet and it’s been the perfect addition to my morning breakfast bowl.

For my next blend, I may try chocolate-strawberry-jalapeno as recommended by Sergio Remolina from the Culinary Institute of America. Partially because of how delicious it sounds and partially because– Remolina? Are we long lost 5th cousins?
