After our week on Denis Island, Peter and I spent a few days at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa.
The hotel is beautiful and had the most amazing views.
Our room had a big balcony overlooking the water and was the perfect spot for relaxing after a week of, well, relaxing, with my new husband.
Admittedly we didn’t spend that much time at the hotel because we spent so much time scuba diving. The food at the hotel was just okay, and certainly nothing spectacular. My judgement may have been skewed because we had just left Denis Island which as I said, had the best hotel food ever, but I will give them credit because after we mentioned that we love hashbrowns, one of the restaurant managers made sure they had them every morning at breakfast.
We were also treated by a family of fellow scuba divers we met at Big Blue Divers to dinner one night at La Plage, a beachside French seafood restaurant in Beau Vallon. The food was a big improvement from the Hilton and worth a night out.
While driving around Mahé we stopped at Del Place for a couple of drinks and just a small snack.
The food was so good and I was wishing we could have had dinner here as well. The view was lovely and we spied on a few people in the water across the way. We thought they may have been fellow honeymooners but it turns out they were cast members on a Russian reality television. The premise of the show is that contestants have to construct a house whilst trying to find a partner in the process. Couples then compete for the house itself.
Ooh la la. This made the people watching all that much more interesting.
We rented an open top jeep through our travel agent, Creole travel. Taxis are pretty expensive on the island, so if you’re not hiring a driver, renting a car is the easiest way to get around. We did take the public bus once which cheap but slow. Many of the busses only run every 30 minutes.
Renting a car meant we had the freedom to drive some of the beautiful routes along the coastlines and through the windy jungles. The drives were gorgeous– I wish I had taken more photos but just wait until Mr. Lampard puts together our GoPro videos from the trip.
We’d stop for photo opps and late afternoon snack breaks but mostly just enjoyed the fresh air and serene roads. In the end we skipped exploring Victoria Market to do more scuba diving, but I’d definitely recommend leaving your resort to enjoy the island.
