I had a great time shopping for my wedding dress with my mom, maid of honor, and bridesmaid in Houston last September. But since I wouldn’t be back in Houston until after our wedding I had to have the dress flown to Hong Kong so I could have it altered after my dress was purchased, ordered, made and ready for pick up,
Nearly 6 months later I had my dress in Hong Kong and promptly shoved it in to my wardrobe for the next few weeks. It was only when I realized that I had a month or so before the wedding (and a trip to Rwanda just before) that I thought about taking my dress in for alterations in Hong Kong. I panicked more than a tiny bit when I 1. tried on my dress and I thought it looked horrible 2. I looked up wedding dress alterations and learned most brides start alterations 2-3 months before the wedding 3. none of the wedding dress shops in Hong Kong would alter gowns purchased outside of their store.
Oops. Lucky for me I found a great recommendation online for Perfect Dress Alterations.

They did all of the alterations over the course of 4 different fittings for about US$450. The dress was ready to wear in about 3 weeks and it could have been done more quickly if needed. The very kind seamstress even dealt with a bridezilla moment where I panicked about how terrible I thought I looked in the dress and helped me to make sure I was completely comfortable with the fit.
In fact one of the things I loved about the seamstress was that when I made complaints about the dress she didn’t imply or say anything along the lines of “You’re crazy! You’re tiny! You look great!” Instead she grabbed my a pooch of fat on my stomach and said, “Oh are you talking about this?”
Cue Spanx. And more alterations. But the result was perfect!
I would definitely recommend them as an English speaking alterations shop for pieces you can’t risk ruining!
Peter had a completely custom suit made just across the border in Shenzhen, China. For the custom suit we worked with John Gee of John Gee’s Tailor
Shop No. 5076
Luohu Commercial City
Peter had used this same tailor years before and it was great that John remembered Peter (and his mum!) after so long.
With John, Peter selected all of the fabrics and details for the suit he wanted made and was carefully measured. Peter also had his two best men send their measurements and had 2 more custom suits made for them.
The suits turned out beautifully and John was great to work with (he also speaks excellent English if that is a concern). I would definitely allow several weeks for the suit to be made with 2-3 fittings over that time period. We scored an amazing price for these custom suits because we had multiple items made, had lots of other alterations done on other items, and plan to have more items made by John.
