Last month Peter and his business partner, Norman, brought their company’s team members from DEFT to Hoi An, Vietnam. Hoi An is famous for its beautifully preserved ancient town, but the city is even more special to Peter and me because it’s also the place where Peter proposed to me last year.
I jumped at the opportunity to spend a weekend with the DEFT team and to visit Hoi An for a second time. We ate at my favorite restaurants and I explored the colorful town again, but there were several new adventures and experiences that I can’t wait to share with you.
The tips from my first travel guide to Hoi An are still available here, but here are the basics to get you started for planning your second trip!
How to Get There
We snagged cheap tickets flying from Hong Kong to Da Nang via HK Express. There are often promotions on the HK Express site and if you’re not traveling on a holiday weekend, you can snag a great deal!
From Da Nang we arranged for an airport pick up through our hotel for the 30-45 min drive to Hoi An.
Where to Stay
Our group stayed at the Vinh Hung Emerald Resort and I would definitely stay at the resort again. It was super affordable and clean with a beautiful pool.
Vinh Hung Emerald Resort
An Hoi Islet, Hoi An City
The resort is located just a 5-10 minute walk from the old town and is super convenient. The hotel staff was always friendly and accommodating and they upgraded Peter and I to the Emerald Deluxe River room. Breakfast was included in our stay and was just so-so, but it’s better not to fill up at breakfast anyways and to save room for all the delicious food and coffee in town.
How to Get Around
You can easily walk from Vinh Hung Emerald Resort, but a fun way to adventure to the old town and around Hoi An is via bicycle.
We rented bicycles at the shop across from our resort for 1 USD/per day/per bike.
For those who prefer to rent motorbikes, we rented ours at the same shop for 4 USD/per day.
