Peter and I are travel addicts. This summer we went about nearly 2 months without any holidays and we had reached our limit. Thank goodness Hong Kong is the perfect place to live if you need a quick weekend trip.
We hopped on a plane and in about 2.5 hours we landed in Cebu.
I do miss weekends in College Station or Austin, but ooft…I will certainly miss this more.
How To Get There
Direct flights from Hong Kong International Airport to Cebu-Mactan International Airport via Cathay Pacific and Cebu Pacific
We stayed at the Mövenpick Hotel on Mactan Island and only left Mactan to go island hopping (more on that next week). Most of our time was spent eating, drinking, and relaxing.
Where We Stayed
Admittedly I think our stay at Mövenpick was a bit overpriced (mostly because we waited till the last minute to book our stay), but I was grateful to have a clean and convenient hotel with all the resort amenities. The hotel is well located in between the Shangri-La and Abaca Resort (it’s also significantly cheaper than both) and has a private beach.
The food we ate beachside was yummy and the hotel’s Ibiza Beach Club had an excellent buy one get one happy hour every evening.
The hotel staff was also very accommodating when I accidentally left a dress in our hotel room closet and helped to have it mailed to me in Hong Kong.
In addition to eating at Mövenpick, we also had dinner at the Shangri-La and at Abaca.
Where We Ate
The Shangri-La in Cebu is huge. HUGE. It was a beautiful hotel, but Peter and I prefer smaller hotels, so we weren’t in love with this one.
It felt like the longest. walk. ever. to get to the restaurant from the hotel entrance but it was worth the walk.
Acqua is a lovely Italian restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating next to the Shangri-La pool. We stuffed ourselves with pizza and lasagne and were very happy with how nice and quiet the restaurant was.
However our dinner the night before at Abaca takes the cake.
It was so freaking good.
Not only is Abaca small, private, and gorgeous, but their restaurant is amazing. We ate so much that I was incredibly thankful to be wearing a loose dress that evening to let my belly free to fill itself to its limits.
I could not stop eating.
Peter and I shared 2 orders of macaroni and cheese (yes), the four cheese flatbread pizza (hells yes) and the spicy garlic clams (omg yessss), a bottle of wine, and three desserts. Dinner here is a must!
What to Do
The bulk of our trip was spent relaxing on the beach and eating tons, but the area is also famous for amazing snorkeling and diving. We did a full day island hopping and snorkeling tour with Aqua Dive Cebu that I highly recommend– full details to come next week.
